What is car sharing?
Everyone has car shared at some stage in their life, even when you are driving with a relative in the same vehicle you are doing it. Whenever there is a passenger in a car, this is car sharing (animals excluded, although we are working on it). This site is designed to encourage this option to the public, and bring users together to provide car sharing solutions for eachother.
Why should I car share?
There are a host of benefits, see “why car share?” for details.
Is there a set amount to charge a lift share?
Strictly speaking there is some advanced formula like….
Miles x Distance x Load size -25% total passenger weight
But avoid this simple equation! Be a chum, and be fair. Discuss the rough amount you are willing to pay/charge beforehand and take it from there!
Are there any security concerns?
Naturally yes, and we urge that common sense is used on every occasion. We cannot be there when a share is performed, so advise friends and family exactly what you have planned when first meeting someone and ensure you have ways of communication – a phone for example. Any concerns prior to meeting a user can be requested and directed to security@roadchums.com.
How do I access information?
Upon registration you will have access to your own private message box and all the current active forums. In the members menu this is where you can request a new forum to be developed, which we will process upon request.
What if the forum I am looking for does not exist?
As above, go to your memberspage and request a new one to be created. We will do the rest and inform you when its done, if there is one similar we will direct you there.

How will my information be held?
Your details will be held securely on the roadchums database servers, and will not be passed to any other Business or individual.
Why do I need to register?
We have considered removing this feature, however by asking each chum to provide this detail ensures that any potential threats can be monitored and reported accordingly.
The registration process is relatively simple, why is this?
The information taken is all that we need for now, this could change one day, however items such as smoking preferences or proof of ID is too extreme for the community.
Do I have to register myself on the google map screen?
In a word, no. This is purely an additional feature for users so that they can gain an insight into a potential chum’s location. We never suggest this position to be an exact address anyway, more a key point close by such as a School.
So the boards can be used for more than car sharing then?
The site is primarily a car sharing scheme, but there are also completely separate forums for users to interact with fellow chums.
Is this safe though?
Yes, the boards are constantly monitored and users are also encouraged to report any bogus chums for our investigations. It is hoped that by offering more of a social aspect, it will bring more people into the car sharing community!
Is the site free?
Completely free, although the creator is very keen on chocolate and ice cream (wink wink).
